words from Joe Dolce (!)

I've come to the gradual realization that excessive humility in a person
(a disease I like to call: Humilititis) is really a form of passive-aggressive
behaviour. A very slow fuse. Leading to WMDs of all description.
Weapons of Morbid Depression.

I was watching my two grand daughters play the other day and thought:
I wish I could be more like them. Who on earth would desire an exuberant,
playful, screaming, laughing, shouting, running, jumping beautiful ball of energy
to put it all in a sack, tie it up with a polite ribbon and be - quiet and humble?
(Besides their parents, sometimes, that is.)

I've decided that REAL organic humility is a genuine sense of humour about one's self.

Life is short. Or long, as the case may be. Make a joyful earful. Don't hide your big
mouth under a basket.

Don DeLillo, "The Names"

"To be a tourist is to escape accountability.
Errors and failings don't cling to you the way
they do back home. You're able to drift across
continents and languages, suspending the
operations of sound thought."

Two pieces of great news: First, I just found out that
two of my images were accepted for the upcoming
American Photography journal. The competition was
juried by Kathy Ryan from the New York Times Magazine.

Also, I was recently notified that my work has been
accepted into a show curated by Tim Wride from the
Los Angeles County Museum.

Dresden

'The firestorm was incredible, there were calls for help and
screams from somewhere but all around was one single inferno-
suddenly, I saw people again, right in front of me. They screamed
and gesticulated with their hands, and then to my utter horror
and amazement, I saw how one after the other they simply seem
to let themselves drop to the ground. Today I know that these
unfortunate people were the victims of lack of oxygen.
They fainted and then burnt to cinders.'

Margaret Freyer, on the Allied firebombing of Dresden, 1945

pattern recognition

Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience,
and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern.

I would certainly try the physics department

I don't support the war.
I do support sending much needed
items to the individuals fighting in Iraq.

It is an absurdly easy thing to do....
