The other week, in a yoga class filled with Completely
Insufferable starlets-in-training, the teacher admonished
us all to "think about ourselves for a change."

Honestly, I had to resist the urge to raise my hand and say,
"Ummm....I think what we need is to NOT think about
ourselves for a change"

Aristotle's influence
colored words
The Elizabethan philospher Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626)
told a story of how a group of monks met in the Middle Ages
to discuss how many teeth a horse had. Unable to find the
answer in any of Aristotle's works, one of the younger and
more naive among them suggested that they should retire to
the stable and count. For this he was expelled from the meeting.

Woke up the other night thinking about how it seems that
our issues and preoccupations are like a sort of gas that
expands to fill a balloon.
No matter the degree of the problem, we are somehow obsessed.
A little ridiculous, since we really should be grateful.

A TRUE STORY OF ENORMOUS SIGNIFICANCE, by ed smith
The other day I was making some
tea so I put a pot of water on
to boil, turned away and got
a cup from the cupboard. I
put a teabag in the cup. By
and by, I went back to the
stove and stood over it, gazing
into the pot of water. Presently,
the water began boiling before
my very eyes. It wasn't the
first time I had had such an
experience.

Some things I noticed in the last 24 hours
colored words
I created an art installation at the downtown Old Bank District artwalk.
The photographs were placed on a ledge that had artificial wood paneling.
Given that my work often deals with the mundane this was perfect.
Later, during the ride home, I heard an incredibly bizarre version of
"Baby Elephant Walk" on the Mexican oldies station. I could have killed
to record that - it was so delightfully out of tune - wrong in so many ways.
As the song was playing I watched a man wearing a black suit jacket with
no pants, and black garter belt sashay across the middle of the street. The man
looked at me, smiled coyly, and then lifted his jacket to reveal the garters.
This is true.
